What the Typing Speed Test does

The Typing Speed Test measures how fast and accurately you type by having you reproduce a given passage, then calculating your words-per-minute (WPM) speed and accuracy percentage.

How to use it

1. Start typing the displayed text into the input area.
2. Type as quickly and accurately as you can until you finish the passage.
3. Review your WPM and accuracy results, and click Reset test to try again.

Common uses

• Checking your typing speed as part of a job application requiring a WPM benchmark.
• Tracking typing speed improvement over repeated practice sessions.
• Testing typing accuracy alongside speed, since fast typing with many errors is less useful.

WPM is typically calculated using a standard "word" defined as five characters (including spaces), not literal dictionary words, which is the industry-standard method that makes WPM scores comparable across different tests and passages regardless of the actual words used.

The standard "words per minute" metric used across virtually all typing tests defines a word as exactly five characters including spaces, rather than counting actual dictionary words — this convention exists specifically so that WPM scores remain comparable across different test passages, since a passage full of short words would otherwise produce inflated scores compared to one with longer words.
