Good to know

Converting a JPG to PNG doesn't recover any detail lost during the original JPG compression — PNG is lossless going forward, but it can't undo compression artifacts that were already baked into the source JPG file, so the converted PNG will be the same visual quality as the original JPG, just in a different (and usually larger) file format.

Because PNG uses lossless compression, converting a photo from JPG to PNG typically increases file size substantially even though visual quality stays exactly the same — PNG's lossless approach is ideal for graphics with sharp edges and flat color areas like logos and screenshots, but it's genuinely inefficient for photographic content compared to JPG's lossy compression, which is tuned specifically for photographic detail.
